Carmelo Giovinazzo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmelo Giovinazzo, devoted husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 at the age of 76 after a long and courageous battle with an illness.

Carmelo was born on June 5, 1948, in San Giorgio Morgeto, Italy, to Giacomina and Michelangelo Giovinazzo. As a young boy, Carmelo's family moved to Australia, and in his late teens, they relocated once again, settling in Toronto, Canada, where Carmelo would forge a life filled with love.

He met Carmela in 1978 and they married in 1979. Together, they shared a remarkable journey built on a foundation of deep commitment to one another, and unwavering devotion to their family. This is where Carmelo drew his greatest joy; a doting father to 3 children, and grandfather to 7.

Carmelo’s battle with illness was difficult, but Carmela was by his side every day, showing her own boundless love and dedication, especially during his final years. His children and grandchildren also remained close to him, sharing moments of light even in the most difficult times. Carmelo always managed to smile the brightest when his grandchildren visited.

His will to live, his love for his family, and his resolute spirit make him a true superhero in the eyes of those who knew him.

Carmelo is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Carmela Giovinazzo. His memory will forever be cherished by his children Stephanie (Chris), Michael (Julia) and Dominic (Amy), as well as his adoring grandchildren Matthew, Anthony, Nathan, Noah, Elizabeth, Wesley and Jordan.

He will be eternally loved by his Sister Nancy (Domenic), mother-in-law Rosaria, and siblings-in-law Rosella (Mario), Joe (Lucy), Sal (Fatima) and Frank (Brenda) as well as his many nieces and nephews.

He is reunited with his parents, father-in-law Domenico, and brother-in-law Reno, in peaceful eternity.

Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home (2035 Weston Rd., Toronto) on Monday September 16, 2024 from 4 – 8 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard de Clairvaux Catholic Church (1789 Lawrence Ave. W.) on Tuesday September 17, 2024, at 10 am. Immediately after, Carmelo will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery (7300 Highway #27, Woodbridge).
