“The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a Mother.”
-St. Thérèse of Lisieux
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Carmelia de Lourdes Medeiros Salgadinho Rombeiro. She was welcomed into God’s loving arms in the early hours of June 7th after a courageous battle.
Carmelia was born on March 28, 1935, in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal and was the loving daughter of José and Maria de Lourdes Salgadinho, and dear sister to Eduarda,Auxiliadora, José Luis and Maria de Lourdes. She was the devoted wife of her late husband Edgardo Rombeiro and loving mother to Carmelia, Elisabete, Nelson (Jody) and Michael. She cherished and loved being Vavó to her grandchildren, Alexandra, Dominique, Emily, Nicholas, Madeleine and Nathan.
She was an active leader of the Youth Group in Santa Clara, Juventude Operária Católica (JOC) where she educated young girls in the Catholic Faith and inspired them to share God’s love through their daily work. After meeting Edgardo at the church bazaar where he purchased all the raffle tickets to win her heart, they married on June 7, 1959. Carmelia immigrated to Canada in October 1966 with her husband and young daughters in search of a better life.
As a devout Roman Catholic and deeply spiritual woman, she was dedicated to the formation of her family and sharing the gospel with those she encountered. She had a particular devotion to Mary, Mother of God, and to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, her favourite saint with whom she had a profound connection.
Retired since the age of 67, she proudly embraced her independence. She led an active life, running her errands and maintaining her home. Her priority was saying her prayers and walking to her daily mass. Her passions included praying the rosary daily, watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, completing puzzles, and cooking for her family on special occasions. She adored being involved in her grandchildren’s activities, attending dance recitals or sporting events while always providing love, support, and encouragement.
