Chesley Bruce Burton, known to all as Bruce, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025 in Toronto, at the age of 76 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on July 19, 1948 in Paris, Ontario, and lived a life marked by kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, who he adored and shared a loving marriage of 50 years. He leaves behind his three children, Julia (David), Craig (Vittoria), and Eric (Julia). His wife and children were by his side when he passed away, offering their love and comfort during his final moments. Bruce also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Emily, Jessica, Damian, and Michela, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is predeceased by brother Lyle, and survived by sister Corrine (Ralph). He was a constant source of strength and guidance to his family, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
Bruce was a man of integrity and hard work. He served as the Chief Financial Officer for several mining companies over the course of his career, where his strong work ethic, sharp intellect, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and industry peers alike. Bruce was driven, always striving to make a positive impact on the companies he worked for and the people he worked with.
When not working, Bruce enjoyed hobbies such as golf, time at the cottage (often with a beer in hand), reading and travelling the world. His warm presence, great sense of humour and bright smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a source of hilarious one-liners and had the ability to captivate those around him with his gregarious storytelling.
A private cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sunnybrook Brain Research Foundation in Bruce's memory.
Bruce’s family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers and medical staff who supported him during this devastating disease. His spirit will live on in the countless memories shared by his loved ones
