BURDETTA ( PEGGY ) HAINS (1918-2010) Peacefully on January 22, 2010. Born November 7, 1918 in Woodstock, N.B. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Donald. Her spirit lives on in her children: Ted (Noreen) of Toronto, Donald of Shelburne, Chris of Oakville, and Margaret of Shelbur ne. Grandchildren include Ryan, Tamara, David, and Katherine. A proud graduate of the University of New Brunswick (`40) and the University of Toronto (Master of Library Science), Peggy enjoyed a rich and varied life. Upon completing her studies, she volunteered for the navy and was stationed in Halifax and then Esquimalt, BC. After the war, she married and helped her husband succeed in the accelerated engineering program at Queens. Don and Peggy made a good team. They moved to Hamilton to establish careers and family. The approach worked well. Together they gained the confidence and resources to make the move to Oakville. This opened a new chapter in her life. Her professional interest and skill was found in books and learning. She taught at the Hamilton Teachers College and then worked with a dedicated group to develop the Oakville Library system. Her team established the new west Oakville-Woodside Library. A work-life balance was struck by her interest in gardening, landscaping and theatre. She also embraced the rigours and pleasures of rural life. She was an enthusiastic farm owner in the rolling hills of Mulmer Township near Shelburne. While these activities provided for satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment, her greatest pleasure was found in her grandchildren and close circle of friends. Significantly, she maintained a strong sense of her roots and had on-going warm conversations with a close circle- some for more than 70 years. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the excellent care and support of the health care team at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. A special thank you is extended to caregivers at Homeinstead for their collective support and attention. Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, (905)844-3221 on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 from 1-2 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Haiti relief effort or to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
