Gianakopoulos, Vasilios “Bill”
Loving husband to the late Stamatiki “Mata” Gianakopoulos, father and papou, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday July 4, 2018. He leaves behind his loving children Patricia Mantzoris and her husband John, George Gianakopoulos (Cathy Missios), Anastasia Gianakopoulos (John Varlas) and also his dear grandchildren, Victoria and Emily Gianakopoulos, Panayiotis, Tina and Michaela Varlas, Kristin and Kate Mantzoris. Bill was born in Affisou Laconia Greece in 1932 the youngest child of the late Giorgios and Anastasia (Mademenos) Gianakopoulos and brother to the late Vasiliki Houpis. He immigrated to Canada in 1958 and married his beloved Mata in 1960. Ηe established himself as a restauranteur known for, among others, Leafs Restaurant at Bathurst and Wellington in Toronto, and Wally’s Family Restaurant in Rexdale. His kind, gentle soul will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home (Weston), 2035 Weston Road, on Tuesday July 10 from 5-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Brookhaven Dr., Toronto, on Wednesday at 10:00 am followed by interment at Sanctuary Park. Donations to Parkinson Canada are welcome in his memory.
