Peacefully on June 11, 2024, Beryl passed away at home, ending a long, brave battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born to Imogene Lyon and John McLaughlin on November 26, 1934, in Braeton, Jamaica. She was a deeply beloved wife and faithful friend to her husband, Tony.
Beryl is survived by her sister Doxie, sisters-in-law Gertruda Hadwin, Betty and her husband Don, and Lynda Knevel, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Canada, Jamaica, Australia, the US, and the UK. She was true to her faith, receiving Holy Communion regularly until her passing.
Beryl and Tony first met while they were both working at the same company. She was delighted in taking modeling training and courses in Women's Studies at York University. Beryl went on to be employed by CIL Paints for more than 25 years. She also enjoyed working in retail, part-time for Eaton’s and Simpson’s. Upon retiring at the age of 60, she devoted her life to her husband and her home, which she enjoyed decorating. She loved Liberal politics, travelling to many countries, music, and dancing.
We wish to express our gratitude to the many nurses, doctors, and PSWs who took care of Beryl on her journey. Specifically, we want to mention Dr. Martin Simonik and PSW Diane. Many thanks to all for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
