It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Beryl (Alexander) Costigan on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
Beloved mother of Shirley (Jim), Pat (Paula), John, Joanne (the late Gary), Rob and Paul (Theresa). Adored grandma of Mark, Kristina, Ben, Rory, Chehalis, Allegra, Erica, Jason and Alexandra. Loving great-grandma of Gavin, Elizabeth, Carter, Bowen and Hailey. She will also be missed by many dear friends and family.
Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick in 1935, our mother was the youngest of six. The Alexanders (Margaret, Janet, Joan, Bruce, Kenneth & Mom) were always up for a good laugh and were always kind to everyone they met.
Our mother was a strong woman. As a young mother, she moved across Canada several times with 6 children. When her marriage failed in her 40’s, she enrolled in a secretarial refresher course and was offered a full time position immediately.
Her move from Montreal to Brampton kept her close to Rob and Paul’s family. She loved visiting family across Canada and had several memorable trips with John’s family. Her last road trip was with Shirley and Joanne in September 2019 to attend the wedding of Pat’s son, Ben.
Throughout our childhood, she was busy with bridge parties, piano playing, singing in choirs and baking endless quantities of cookies. Although her later years brought multiple health issues, she still kept busy. She continued her singing while in the choir at St. Bartholomew's United Church. She was a voracious reader, sudoku player and jigsaw puzzle expert. She knit countless baby hats for infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care, toques for the homeless and sweaters for her family and friends.
So now it is time to rest, dear Mom. Breathe easy and know that we will always love you.
We extend our gratitude to the staff of the Brampton Civic Center who treated our mom with professional care and kindness.
