Bernard Raymond Siebring

Born in the Netherlands, Bernie immigrated to Canada at age 16 with his parents Hermana and Gerrit, and sister Dinie. They arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS, and moved west by train to settle as Western Canadians. The following years included studies, work and much travel as Bernie frequently crossed Canada. He spent many days hiking through the mountains, and decided to move them as well when he worked on the construction of the Rogers Pass.

Bernie followed a heritage of Christian faith and hard work, and it was common for him to sing a hymn as he worked throughout the day. Work was a passion and a source of pride with his own renovation business. Inside and outside of his home he brought great attention and care to his tasks and his looks. When it was time to have fun, his family was near and he was generous; travel was frequent and it always included adventure.

Bernie fathered two sons, Raymond and Gerritt, with his first wife Bonnie. It was with his wife, Pearl, that he found an enduring friendship that lasted over 24 years.

A five-year season of medical conditions brought him to Brampton and Baycrest hospitals. Encouraged and cared for by Pearl, who was a well of love that always had something to give, Bernie remained steadfast in his faith. He demonstrated resolve and never wavered, despite many medical setbacks. With his wife by his side, he peacefully exited his life on earth to gaze upon his Saviour and enter his eternal home.

Bernie is survived by his only sibling Dinie (Ed) Kelowna BC, sons Ray (Julie) Colorado Springs US, Gerritt (Courtney) Halifax NS, grand children Elias, Gabriella, Josiah, Jarret, Shae and nephews and nieces.

Special thanks to Baycrest for the excellent care and compassion shown by all the medical staff. Thanks also to the chaplain, pastors, family and friends who visited and prayed for Bernie during his long stay at hospital.
Bernie lived a full and contented life. He will be lovingly remembered as an outgoing gentleman of strength and courage; a man who fought well, who loved family, friends and loved God and served Him.
