After a long battle with emphysema and a shorter one with cancer, Barry passed away quietly at home with his family on Friday, December 24th, 2010.
Barry Scott Yorston was born on February 14, 1939 (Valentine’s Day) in Toronto, Ontario. He was predeceased by his father Harry Roy Yorston and mother Helen Muriel Porter. Barry, the oldest of three children is survived by his brother: Ron Yorston (Joanne), Vancouver B.C.; sister: Sandra Yorston, Aurora, ON; his three children: Debora Anne Yorston, Toronto, ON; Scott Cary Yorston, Toronto, ON; and Cheryl Anne Yorston, Toronto, ON; niece: Meghan Yorston, Vancouver, BC. He was the beloved Grandfather of Tiffany Rose, Tammy Joanne, Bianca May, Quentin Darnell, Parry Scott, Shaianna Shauna and Kaylee Ashley; and Great Grandfather of DeShaun Barry, Bianka June and Trinity Tookie.
Barry grew up in Toronto attending Annette Street Public School and Runnymede Collegiate. He was married to Joanne (Debbie and Scott), Shirley (Cheryl), and Beth. Barry worked at Dosco Steel, Canada Post, and Nelson Stud where he met long time friends, Linda, Bob and Betty.
For the past 16 years, Barry resided at Beech Hall in the former City of York where he met Jimmy, Ross, Evelynne, and many more wonderful people. He will be sadly missed by friends and family.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by Barry’s request. There will be a memorial to celebrate Barry’s life on January 29, 2011 at Beech Hall, 21 Cordella Avenue. Toronto from 2-4 pm. For more information call (416) 638-8532
