Audrey courageously left us all to reunite with her dance partner, tennis double and husband, Dick. Born and raised in Montreal to May (McGrudder) and Walter Mondey, Audrey was the eldest sister to Joan Black (Jim) and Walter and sister-in-law Vivian. She attended West Hill High School and later teachers college at MacDonald College of McGill University. It was there that she met Dick and as soon as he was able to keep up with her on the dance floor they married in 1954. New in-laws, Ruth and Lorne Booth and Betty and Bill Mitchell became dear family members and wonderful friends.
Life never did slow down for them as they moved to Toronto, to Oakville, to Chicago and back to Oakville to raise their family and gather many lifelong friendships. Together they led a very blessed life shared with children Cheryl Phillips (Stephen), Pamela (Robert Boggs) and Richard (Nancy Truman). Audrey was the beloved Gramma who spoiled and indulged her grandchildren Ellen and Margot, James and Megan, and Julia and Delaney.
If you couldn't find Audrey on the tennis courts at Wallace Park or the Oakville Club or Mississaugua Golf and Country Club, you might have found her volunteering (for almost 35 years) for the Women's Auxiliary at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, or co leading the "Couples Club" at St Paul's United Church, or making pies for Dick (none have ever compared) or trying new gourmet dishes for friends, or sewing costumes for plays and skating carnivals. Everyone's "wardrobes" were homemade by Mom including wedding dresses and ski suits and hats!
When you think of Audrey, you'll remember her smile. Even being afflicted by the progression of Alzheimer's Disease for the last 10 years she was the one who would still make you laugh, sing along and dance with her.
In accordance with Audrey’s wishes, there will be no service. A private family interment will follow at a later date in St. Jude's Cemetery, Oakville.
Those who wish may consider a donation to The Hamilton Halton Alzheimer Society in memory of Audrey Archibald or certainly the charity of your choice with much gratitude.
