Arthur Bernard Baker
Arthur passed peacefully on March 5, 2024 at the Sunnybrook Veterans Center after a long illness at the age of 89.
A native of Point St. Charles in Montreal Quebec, he was also very proud of his Newfoundland roots. As a young man, he served his country in the Canadian Armed Forces in Korea and came home to what became a successful 35-year career at Nortel. Art was a very active member of the Korea Veterans Association and participated in the creation of the Wall of Remembrance in Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton Ontario. In his later years, Art was also very active with Habitat for Humanity and the CNIB where he repaired books for the blind. He was also active with St. Mary’s Church in Brampton where he served in the Knights of Columbus and was often called upon to perform a repair or two.
He is survived by Rosalind, his wife of 67 years and his children, Deborah (Ira) Hill, Patricia (Jerry) Bond and Sam Baker. He is also the beloved grandfather of Crissa, Tanya, Ryan, Allison, Christopher, Kaitlyn, and Emily. He is the Great-grandfather of Rachael, Maddie, Penelope, Theo, Ronan, Declan and Sophie. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and by his dear friends. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Sunnybrook Veterans Grant a Wish Program would be appreciated by the family.
