It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Maria Mazza (nee La Barbera) a beloved wife, mother, nonna, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on October 8th after a courageous 13-year battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.

Born on November 11, 1953 in Termini Imerese, Sicily, Italy, Anna Maria lived a life defined by strength, joy, and unwavering love. Throughout her long fight with cancer, she never lost her spirit, facing each challenge with bravery, hope, and always with a smile that could light up any room. Her positivity and grace in the face of adversity were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

For 48 beautiful years, she was married to the love of her life, Salvatore, her darling soulmate and the pillar of her world. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and an ever-growing family. She leaves behind her four children: Rachele (Jason), Carmelina (Justin), Joanna (Stephen), and Giuseppe (Sarah), and ten cherished grandchildren: Giuseppe, Isabella, Ariella, Austin, Abel, Astoria, Sabrina, Arsenio, Julia, and Angelina, all of whom brought immense joy and meaning to her life.

Family was everything to Anna Maria. She found her greatest happiness from her children and grandchildren, filling their days with laughter and creating precious memories. Her love for life was reflected in the simple joys she treasured, like spending time at her cherished cottage, where she would sit by the water, watching the sunsets. 

She is survived by her loving siblings, in-laws, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Anna Maria was also blessed with a second family at Gatto Flowers, where she worked for many years and formed lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply.

Anna Maria touched the lives of so many people with her kindness, warmth, and infectious joy. 

Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, continuing the fight she so bravely endured.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

Family and friends will also be received on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Nativity of our Lord Roman Catholic Church (480 Rathburn Road, Etobicoke). 

Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
