It is with a very heavy heart that Antonietta, Domenica and Lisa Di Prospero share the passing of their cherished mother Anna (Anna Maria). Mamma passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by all of her family at the age of 94 on August 21, 2023.
Anna was born on September 8, 1928 to Paolo and Maria Alati in Sora, Frosinone, Italy (famiglia Fortuna) and the 2nd youngest of 9 children. She married her love Ciro (Cirillo) Di Prospero in 1951. They immigrated by boat to Canada, landing at Pier 21, in 1958 to start a new life full of opportunity and promise with their first daughter, Antonietta. They settled in Toronto where they built a beautiful life together giving birth to two more daughters, Domenica and Lisa.
Anna is the very much loved mother of her three daughters Antonietta, Domenica (Domenic) and Lisa (husband Bruno). Most cherished Nonna of Marco (wife Jeannette), Sonia (husband Gianni), Julia (Ryan), Luca, Sofia and Cristian. Most loving Bisnonna of Jean Marco, Genna, Juliette, Jiorjia, Gia and Julian. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews both in Canada and Italy as well as her many extended family members, friends and neighbours.
Anna was predeceased by her love Ciro, her brothers Luigi, Clemente, Domenico, Luciano and her sisters Domenica and Olimpia. She is survived by her two sisters, Assunta and Vincenza.
Mamma was a true ‘Ciociara’ woman known for her outrageous humour, sharp wit and incredible strength. She was the matriarch of our family and taught us that life was precious and should not be taken for granted especially the time you have on this earth. She taught us to love each other no matter what and that life was too short to wallow in sadness, regret and grudges. Mamma loved her daily wine and espresso (with a little Baileys of course). Her last wishes were always to celebrate her life through laughter and happiness.
We will miss mamma deeply, however find overwhelming comfort in the memories of joy, happiness and laughter we have of her.
Our family thanks the health care team at Mackenzie Health, SE Health, SRT Med, Hospice Vaughan and Father Eugene for all their care that allowed mamma to pass away peacefully at home as she wanted.
The family requests that all donations be made to Hospice Vaughan.
