ONYSCHUK, Ann Mary
It is with profound sadness that we announce that our dear Mom, Ann Mary Onyschuk, passed away peacefully at home in her 88th year after a short battle with breast cancer. Daughter of the late Steve and Helen Lapchinski and devoted wife of Roy (deceased 2020) for 62 years, She leaves to mourn her cherished family, daughters Caryl (Glenn) and Bonnie (Andrew) and son Gregory (Michelle), 7 grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda), Courtney (Matthew), and Connor, Meghan and Cameron, Emma and Grace and her great grandchildren Jack, Holly and Rory. She was the beloved sister to Ernest and Ron (Monica), sister-in-law to Ted (Donna) and Olga (Don, predeceased) and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Born in Sudbury, she was a mischievous, inquisitive child and excellent student, graduating at the top of her nursing class from St Joseph’s in Port Arthur and enjoyed a career as an OR nurse at Barrie Royal Victoria Hospital until 1980. She was a lifelong volunteer including RVH Women’s Auxillary, Catholic Woman’s League, choir member to many parishes and great contributor to the Christian Woman’s Club. She enjoyed curling at the Barrie Curling Club in the 1970’s. Until a year ago, she would cook meals for Caring and Sharing teaching us all how to contribute to our community and there weren’t many people in her life who were not the benefactor of one of her crafty gifts. But paramount to all of these accomplishments, she was an unwavering example to us of her faith in action, a steadfast supporter of all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, a devoted friend and a true force of nature who made a difference in this world every day. Visitation is in the care of Ward’s Funeral Home, Brampton on Wednesday December 7, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass is at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Brampton Thursday December 8 at 1 pm. Special thanks for the loving care given by Petrona in Mom’s last weeks. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson Canada.
