ANN-MARIE FERGUSON, age 79 of Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital on February 21, 2025. Born March 1, 1945, Ann was one of three children (Carolyn, Ann and Ronald) born to Yvonne (nee Weatherly) and Gordon Ludlow in post-war Toronto. Her loving sister, Carolyn Hives, survives her. Ann was a caring and devoted wife to her surviving and dedicated husband, Barry Ferguson, for more than 57 years of marriage.
Ann was the proud mother of her two boys and their spouses: Grant (and Anastasia) and Todd (and Kristin). She dearly loved her four grandchildren: Ariya, Aithan, Audrey and Galen. She was a loving aunt to Greg (and Maria) Hives and great-aunt to their children: Olivia and Jonas.
Ann was a dedicated artist with many of her hobbies producing works of art including knitting, crochet, macramé, needlepoint and sketched portraits, having attended Central Technical School for fine art. Growing up in Toronto, she loved visits to the CNE, her close-knit family and travel with her constant companion and husband, Barry. She married Barry in 1967, moving to Ottawa then returning to Toronto with her first-born son, Grant. Her son Todd followed six years later when she took on the role of a working mother, serving as a dental assistant for many decades. In her career, she helped thousands of patients and families with her friendly, gentle demeanor and changed many of their lives for the better.
Ann was a great cook and pastry chef. She would perfect recipes to ensure that her family was well-fed, well-loved and surrounded by beautiful things made with love. She travelled much with her two boys and husband Barry over many years, showing them many parts of North America and the Caribbean and sharing her joy of food, the ocean and music, with them.
Ann loved musicals, movies of the ‘40s and ‘50s, the music of the Mills Brothers, the Rat pack and their contemporaries. She passed on those passions to her children and grandchildren, several of who are artistic in their own right, having received her love of music, drawing and expressing themselves in multiple art forms. Ann loved spending time with her devoted husband Barry, who was her constant companion particularly while she was needing more care in the last several months of her life.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home, Woodbridge Chapel, 4671 Highway #7, Woodbridge Ontario, L4L 1S6, with her funeral service to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, also at the Woodbridge Chapel. This would have been her 80th birthday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William Osler Health System (Etobicoke General) in her honour to celebrate the many months of excellent care and support she has received there over the years.
