It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Angela Gariffo on October 16, 2022. She has joined her loving husband of 41 years, the late Leoluca Gariffo. She was the cherished mother of Mary and Lucie (Peter) and a proud Nonna to Christopher and Jennifer.
When she immigrated to Canada, Angela worked at a textile factory. As a young girl growing up in Italy she mastered embroidery and needlepoint. Her family will treasure many of the pieces that she made.
Angela and Leoluca left their birth town of Corleone, Sicily together with their two young daughters in the hopes of providing a better life for them in Canada. Nonetheless, their birth town still held a special place in their hearts.
Her home in Maple was the central location for those near and dear to gather. Her homemade lasagna was one of her family favourites. She and Leoluca harvested produce from their garden, made their own wine, and preserved their own tomato sauce. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her loved ones, especially during family dinners.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge) on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be at St. David’s Parish (2601 Major MacKenzie Dr W, Maple) on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Arthritis Society of Canada.
Angela lived each day to its fullest and represented all that is good in life. She will be forever loved and sorely missed.
