ALMA EDITH PARADOWSKI
(nee MALMI)
August 17, 1914 – August 20, 2015
We are saddened to announce the passing of Alma on August 20, 2015. She had a good long life, living to see her 101th birthday, something she certainly never expected.
Predeceased by her husband Antoni, Alma was a loving mother to Helmi (Doug) and Lorraine (Jon) and a wise and caring grandmother to Anthony and the late Matthew.
Alma loved to sew, knit and do all the crafts. She used these skills during her working career with Eaton’s and Simpson’s in their fabric departments. While she left the formal work world when her daughter Helmi was born, she continued to sew and create fine things for friends and family and later expanded into doing some seamstress work on the side.
Her Church was always an important part of her life. She took the Christian principles to heart and spent a life devoted to volunteer work. Alma focused on helping the young in some capacity, from being a Sunday school teacher, to running youth groups, to her work with physically and intellectually challenged children. Later, to complete the circle of life, she added work with Downsview Services for Seniors.
The family is eternally grateful to the staff of Meighen Manor for their dedicated care during her final years and to the staff of Sunnybrook Hospital who supported her in her last days.
A Celebration of Alma’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alma’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital would be appreciated.
