Alex Tibor Horbasz passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 21 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea at the age of 66.
He is survived by his loving parents, Lucia and Tibor, and brother, Chris (Carol). He leaves behind his wife, daughters, son-in-law, niece, nephew, and grandchildren.
Alex was born on May 6, 1955 in Meitingen, Germany. Throughout his youth, he moved often between Europe and North America. Wherever he found himself, adventure always followed. He enjoyed athletics and was a fervent animal lover. In his teenage years, he relished in the excitement of mastering the art of commerce, making some pocket change along the way. An enterprising young man with a proclivity for changing up the status quo, he could often turn a challenge into a golden opportunity.
Never one to shy away from adventure, he enjoyed taking on exciting and challenging assignments in some of the most remote regions of the world. His latest venture was no exception.
In addition to his infectious positivity, one of Alex’s more striking qualities was his sense of humour. No words were better written that radiate Alex’s character the most than Hunter S Thompson’s famous line:
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
We’d like to thank the wonderful people of Papua New Guinea, especially Rex and Henry, who provided Alex with such care and support in the final months of his life.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home "Brampton Chapel" on Sunday October 24, 2021 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
