Hebburn, Alban Alfred
August 20, 1916 – March 28, 2011
Quietly at the Humber Regional Hospital, Church St. Site on Monday March 28, 2011. Predeceased by his beloved wife Doreen Hebburn, his parents William and Ethel Hebburn, and by his brothers William, Kenneth, and Howard. Loving father of Mary Switek. Cherished grandfather of Andrea Miron, and great-grandpa of Matthew, Michael, and Maxx all of Winnipeg Manitoba.
Dad was born in Bracebridge, Ontario and was raised in the west end of Toronto. He served in England and the Netherlands with the Royal Regiment of Canada and the Royal Canadian Artillary during WWII, attaining the rank of Sargent. He was a Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 31. He received the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding service to the R.C.L. Dad was awarded a Senior Achievement Award from the Province of Ontario for his significant contributions to his community, and in 2007 received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in recognition of his work for and with the veterans of Canada. For many years he spent part of each Remembrance Day with the staff and students at Our Lady of Victory School which was truly special to him. Dad was a longtime employee in the upholstery department of Eatons, from which he retired in 1981. He loved the study of history, his garden, corny jokes, and to tell stories of his younger years.
We thank Dad’s neighbors and friends who made it possible for him to remain in his own home until the end.
Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (North of Lawrence Ave. W.) Weston on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday March 30th, 2011 at 10:30am. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion - Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
