It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of John Alan Jackson. Alan Jackson passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the age of 86 at Mackenzie Health Long-Term Care.
Alan was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Alan is predeceased by his beloved wife Lorna (nee Jeffrey), his wife of 44 years. He is survived by his daughter Linda (Mario), and sons Jeffrey (Deb) and Jim (Angela); his six grandchildren Carolyn, Lindsay, Lauren, Stefano, John Paul and Lucas; his sister Barbara Bell (Bob) and many nieces and nephews.
Alan, most often referred to as Al, spent the majority of his professional career at Kodak Canada, where he met the love of his life, his wife Lorna. They were married shortly after in September 1956. Together they had three children and were both actively involved in their community. Lorna was the Mayor of the City of Vaughan until her death in 2002. Al was instrumental to her career and steadfast in his support for her. Al was a longtime member of the Woodbridge Rotary Club and served as their President and coached all three of his children in hockey. While raising his family and working full-time, Al earned his Mechanical Engineering degree (P.Eng) at night school from Queen’s University in Kingston, ON.
Al had a passion for the outdoors and more specifically the water. Al was an avid swimmer, scuba diver, sailor and water skier. Al could be seen every morning at 6:30am diving into the cool waters of Lake Muskoka, where his family made decades worth of memories at their cottage. Al was also a handyman extraordinaire. He spent hours in his workshop, fixing, tinkering and woodworking. You could also find him on his backhoe digging the ditch for a new septic tank or plowing the drive. Al was also an accomplished pianist. He played and sang at his piano daily even in his final days. His love of music and the joy it brought will forever be held dear to his loved ones.
Al’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mackenzie Health Long Term Care for the exceptional care they provided to him this past year.
