We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Adamo Conte on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022, at the age of 97.
Adamo Conte was born in Rende, a small hilltop village in Calabria, Italy on May 7th, 1925, being one of eight children of Concetta and Eugenio Conte.
Like others in his town, Adamo took up a trade. His was barbering. Although he had a good trade, life in his village was extremely hard. One day in 1950 he packed up his barber’s shears, locked the door to his shop and left the only home he had ever known for a new one—-Canada.
Shortly thereafter, Adamo was married to Francesca La Valle, whose family he had known from the same village.
Together, they raised four children in their post war bungalow in Etobicoke, living a simple, yet fulfilling, life surrounded by extended family, and an abundance of love.
Many of the nephews and grandchildren had their first haircut with Adamo over the years. Barbering was not only a job to him, but a vocation. Longstanding customers would come by and take a seat in his chair not only for a haircut, but often times a caring ear or a friendly chat.
Adamo is reunited with his predeceased and cherished Daughter, Anna; and Adamo leaves behind his beloved wife, Francesca of 70 years; and his three sons: Michael [Heather], Dino [Karen] and Peter [Nadia]. Adamo will be forever missed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Family appreciates everyone’s kind words, thoughts, and support throughout this challenging time.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members present.
