Michael Cosburn

The life of Michael Dan Cosburn (January 30th 1987-July 4th 2023) was a life filled with friendships, love, and laughter.

Michael was born to Bernadette and Dan Cosburn in Brampton, Ontario, where he lived and worked for much of his life. The younger brother of Sandra, Michael attended Chinguacousy Secondary School in Brampton and worked as a spot-welder for Daybar Industries. In 2022, Michael met and immediately fell in love with Angela (Angie) Armstrong. The two lived happily together in Etobicoke where they adored (and at times tolerated) their mischievous cat, Stevie.

Mike was exceptionally gregarious, warm, and loving. He was also universally well-loved by his many friends and family. He was unsparing with his affection to the people in his life, and he elicited that affection from others in return. Michael was deeply thoughtful; each year he would fill-out, by hand, a wall calendar with birthdays and celebrations, and he would make every effort to attend each one. He often traveled great distances to visit family and friends and was quick to offer his help on any occasion. He was also unafraid to ask for help, including help with moving (thanks Steve), packing (“thanks” Leila and Sean), mounting his TV (again Steve), or getting his various technological gadgets to work (thanks Brad). He was especially fond of animals and children – he adored his niece (Kate) and nephew (Jake) and spent many hours cheering-on Jake’s baseball games and enjoying Kate’s musicals. Michael was godparent to Kate and also to Ethan and Javier Ressi, the children of his dear friend Alex.

Mike was outrageously fun and funny and quick to laugh. Good-spirited laughter surrounded him everywhere he went, and he was without question the beating heart of every social gathering. Mike's humour was effortless and one-of-a-kind – he simply saw the world in a humorous light, and he was able to share this hilarious point-of-view with the people around him. In addition to his unrivaled sense of humour, Mike possessed a truly unique blend of positivity, confidence, fearlessness, a keen intelligence, genuine open-mindedness, overwhelming kindness, and an extraordinary work ethic.

Michael led an adventurous and physically active lifestyle. He enjoyed skiing, rollerblading, biking, and swimming, among other activities – especially when accompanied by Angie and his friends. Mike worked out and maintained strong physical fitness his entire adult life. He and Angie ran a half-marathon together this past spring.

Mike was a true lover of music, which he listened-to during nearly all waking hours. He was an avid concertgoer and a collector of vinyl albums, and his ever-running playlist of “liked” songs on Spotify had a run-time of over 9 days. Mike enjoyed playing the guitar and played it well. His musical tastes were characteristically wide-ranging, though the Beatles held a special place in his heart.

In addition to a love of music, Michael was a connoisseur of movies both high- and low-brow (as he said, “they can’t all be Forrest Gump”). It is estimated that he single-handedly kept Amazon’s DVD department afloat as the only person to regularly order movies-on-disc in the year 2023. Michael is also perhaps the only human being to own a copy of Rob Schneider’s prison film “Big Stan”, which was a personal favourite (rotten tomato score: 11%).

Michael is cherished in the memories of his Mom and Dad (Bernadette and Dan Cosburn), his partner Angela Armstrong, his big sister and brother-in-law (Sandra and Nick Pachas), his nephew and niece (Jake and Kate), his beloved cat Stevie, his large extended family, and his many treasured friends.

In memory of Michael Cosburn a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
