My heartfelt condolences to Judy, Rick, Ella, Donna, Oswaldo and spouses/family on the loss of a man who was truly 'One of a Kind'.
When Judy and I were in university, my time was peppered with wonderful and regular visits to the Mussio home, as I became "one more daughter". Of course, that included many scrumptious meals, interesting conversations, and animated debates over current issues, with the Mussio family. Fiorello was the beacon of observations, razor-wit opinions and certainly the Vetter of the blind dates or venues that Judy and I chose, during those university years!
Looking back, of course, he was right !
As a result of cryptic and not-so-cryptic dialogues, I was able to do Fiorello impersonations for many years to come, and if Tim Conway had met him, there surely would have been a new character added to TV ! In these past few years, I considered myself fortunate to visit at the family home, usually around Christmas. It felt good to see everyone - an opportunity to visit the past that made its way into our present world.
Fiorello, God bless him, had not changed a bit! I looked forward to his spicy commentary, view of life and... always, always a big smile and hug at the end of a visit where he showed his genuine pleasure to spend time with you. A social man, with unwavering beliefs, he was always true to himself. A twinkle in his because he clearly knew more than we did ! Loved that. He devoted his life to his sister, brother in law, nieces, nephew, their children, and those family members here and back home in Italy. He knew what mattered, and he mattered to all of us. Rest in peace, Fiorello. The angels have taken your soul now, but not the part that will remain with all of us here..... With love and respect, Vicki O'Toole
