It is with much sadness that the family of Richard Black announce his passing on Sunday January 12th, 2020. Richard had spent the last 25 years fighting multiple medical issues but Cancer brought him down. Our blessing is that it was fast and painless. Richard was able to spend his last day peacefully with his wife of 36 years, Janet, and his daughter Laurie and husband David, Becky and husband Chris, all at his side; and then slip off to his final sleep.

Richard was known for his huge heart and his generous nature, and of course his aggravating belief that he knew best for every person he knew and cared about, and you did not experience one side of him without the other. Richard enjoyed silliness and playfulness and his Grandchildren especially will miss him. Wolfe and Rosy lost their Poppa, and Nick and Nicole lost their extremely proud Grandpa.

Richard Black had 2 families prior to the one with Janet. He married a woman and had Laurie. Left that marriage and married Else which they had 5 children together. Ruth-Anne, Heidi, Karen, Erica and Andrew. All of his children except for Erica who unfortunately passed away several years ago. Are still around and living a fantastic life. We had no choice as Richard along with the help of Janet decided to take him out of our lives. We have all meet a wonderful spouse and have children who we love and adore. While Janet was in the hospital giving birth to her daughter, with no father around and no place to live. Else offered to come to rent a room in our family home. Which eventually hurt our family as Richard had an affair on my mother with Janet.
They left the home to live their own lives. Richard never kept in contact with any of his children.

So I guess this is why Janet decided not to even mention that Richard has some a
amazing children and grandchildren who never got the chance to meet him because that is the way Janet wanted it.

We have all grown up to be great people, have great careers and it will as no thanks to the parenting of Richard and Janet who have only been married for 34 years!

I have so many fond memories working with Richard at StLuc CP. I can remember his first day. Also memories of our family and his living in Chateauguay, his many shenanigans such as the day he threw his garbage on the Mayor’s lawn during the garbage strike. We would like to send our heart felt condolences to his family. I was not surprised that Richard put up a great fight to beat that Cancer. So many memories! Well old buddy you deserve to RIP.
